Every surgery, no matter how simple it may be, or whether it was meant for feminization or not, has certain risks, and we should not rule them out. However, it is very unlikely for a canthopexy to present any complications when performed by a qualified facial feminization surgeon.
- Asymmetry.
- Adverse reactions to anesthesia.
- Infections may develop, but if you take the right antibiotics, they will be less likely to develop.
- Hypertrophic scars or keloids (excessive scar tissue due to genetic traits of certain skin types).
- It may be recidive (in some cases, the fixation may give way before the healing process is completed and the lower eyelid will acquire the same characteristics it had before the surgery).
